Living on booze and junk food through her student years, Hayley Westoby, 25, found that her weight went up to a staggering 18 stone 7 pounds!
It was after her ex embarrassed her, that she took stock of the situation and decided to lose the weight need help write my essay. During an argument, he mentioned the fact that she was fat, and it was then that Hayley realised that she had let herself go.
The marketing manager swapped her lifestyle for workout sessions in the gym . She cut out alcohol and changed her diet to a healthier oneFitness became part of her life again, and the weight began to drop offShe felt better and looked great!
“Before my weight had been mentioned, I hadn’t realised how much weight I’d put on.”
“It had been a gradual thing since starting university, where I gained the ‘Fresher 10’ and then some thanks to my student diet of junk food and booze.”
“But after the shock of realising how much weight I had put on had worn off, it made me look at my party lifestyle and I realised I had actually let myself go.”
“I decided to set myself an achievable target of losing 5kg (0.7st) and was amazed at how quickly it came offSo I kept going, educating myself on exercise and nutrition along the way.”
“Now I’ve lost 65kgs (10st) completely naturally and am so proud of what I’ve achievedI’ll never be embarrassed by my body again.”
Before commencing her degree, Hayley had been a physically fit teen, who liked running and sports:
“I used to do 100 metre sprints all the time and was very activeThen when I was 18, I injured my right knee and doctors told me I couldn’t run anymore,” she said. “Going from 100% to doing absolutely nothing meant I put on weight quickly.”
“After that, it was really easy to relax into the student lifestyleI forgot all about exercise and instead spent my spare time socialising in pubs and clubs.”
“My healthy home cooked meals went out the window in favour of cheap, budget-friendly options.”
Her diet of mainly pasta and bread is now filled with fresh fruit and veggies, and she has cut alcohol out completelyHayley is quite happy to drink soda and lemon slices when she goes out with friends.
Hayley varies her workouts with spinning classes and weightliftingAll it took was a nasty comment from an ex to set the right wheels in motion!
However it wasn’t until an argument with an ex that Hayley realised she had got so much weight.
“We were arguing about something silly, when at the end he told me to ‘lose some weight,” Hayley continues.”Initially, I remember feeling horrified, but deep down I knew he wasn’t being nastyIt was a slip of the tongue that had revealed he had genuine concerns about my size.”
“Later, I weighed myself and I was 119kgs (18st 7lb)It was the heaviest I’d ever been.”
The comment was enough to motivate her to make some lifestyle changes:
“Fitness has been a huge part of my journeyOnce I started adding it back into my life, I fell in love with it all over again,” she said.
“I’d vary up what exercises I was doingI loved spin classes and began learning how to lift weights.”
“Soon my body was becoming leaner and more toned than it had ever been.”
Hayley, who now follows a protein heavy diet plan, now weighs 117 lbs and has replaced her excess fat for muscle:
“Most days I wake up at 5.30am to make sure I can train before work.”
“After, I’ll eat a bowl of homemade oats and for lunch, I’ll have 200 grams of lean meat with veggies and something similar for lunch,” she adds“It’s such a change to my old diet of pastas and bread and my body has reaped the rewards.”
“People don’t realise how many calories and how much sugar is in that glass of wine or beer that they love.”
“It was hard to quit at first, as I’ve always been a social personBut I realised that I could still go out with the girls and not drink.”
“Most of the time, people don’t even notice I’m not drinking as my soda water and lime looks no different to what everyone else has in their hands.”

Hayley is supported by her new partner, 35, who encourages her to stick to her goals:
“I met Nathan at the gym six months ago and he’s been a great support.”
“The anxiety we feel about our bodies is real and sometimes I still look at myself hear those words: ‘You need to lose weight.'”
“But I use it as motivation to get myself to the gym and have even started helping other women I’ve met through social media by sharing my recipes and tips.”
